CUT IN WOOD. CAST IN IRON

Wednesday, 29 September at 18 you are invited to ArtDepoo gallery to the opening of  Tarrvi Laamann’s, who is a DJ and a graphic artist, one-man exhibition called “CUT IN A WOOD. CAST IN IRON”. The exhibition has been touring in Estonia since May and has returned to Tallinn.

Tarrvi Laamann wishes to introduce his exhibition with the words of his good friend and poet Tommyboy:

I respect freedom though bearing it is sometimes not an easy burden
I respect creating and create to keep in balance experience and crudeness
I respect teachings of life and teach ‘cause thus the teacher learns
I respect a man who happy is by nature and shares that happiness with us

Tarrvi Laamann’s pictures are influenced by reggae and its homeland. The bright colours, smells, tastes, warmth, rhythms and the feeling that you are on a vacation originate from the trips to “the colourful worlds”. All this sparkle and diversity of colours leads to beauty which is spiritual rather than decorative. Laamann’s works are positive and joyful; that is his way of improving the world.

Using the woodcut technique is explained by the artist as follows: “You never know what the result may be because wood plays so much. Or OK, if I did this on a smooth piece of hardwood like oak I would know exactly what it’s going to be. But I do this on plywood. And that’s the interesting part as it includes several elements – I have a feeling that it was not me that did this but God or somebody puts these silly ideas in my mind and then the woodcut adds its own little twist. I like it – it’s like life, you can’t really control it.”  Tarrvi Laamann

Artist talk or meeting with the artist takes place in ArtDepoo gallery on 13 October at 17.
The discussion will be supervised by Siram aka Mari Kartau.
Participates Tarrvi Laamann´s instructor and friend Leonhard Lapin.

Tarrvi Laamann has studied graphic art in Estonian Academy of Arts and graduated as the Master of Graphic Art in 2000; he is a member of Estonian Artists’ Association since 1994. During the last 12 years Laamann has become recognised as the organiser of Bashment events in Estonia introducing reggae-culture.
