Paintings of Juss Piho have become within a short period of time part of the
general vision of the artist\'s creation to such an extent that detaching these
two would bring about irreparable results in the functioning of the whole
organism or in handling of Piho\'s whole creation. Artist, whose handwriting can
be described to be fully formed, started to paint last year unexpected lines
that kept growing and finally melted with dazzling colours into large-format
paintings. So one day Juss Piho was just standing in his studio, watching in
wonder, how his pictures were having coffee and a nice converation with each
other.
In the warm summer of the year 2002 in the
basement hall of the Haus Gallery took place Juss Piho\'s first stepping out as a
painter. The successful exhibition proved to everybody that Piho\'s swithing from
graphical art and being the illustrator of children\'s books to becoming a
painter (the turn that he had actually been planning already for years) was a
success. Piho returned to the studio with a smirk and started painting. At the
current exhibition are exposed his latest works, some of which have been
accomplished only in the beginning of this year.Juss Piho\'s works are dazzling:
it is simultaneously very easy and extremely complicated to understand them. In
any case, Piho has detached far from the realistic style, where everything is
painted so that it would be recognized and it could be copied back into reality,
but we can still recognize a café-table being a café-table and cat\'s whiskers
being cat\'s whiskers . Yet there exists a strange shift, a pas that has
deliberately been made in a different manner. Piho is is not satisfied anymore
only with logics and brilliant accomplishment of the work, he wants more, he
demands it! Stories and short narratives, having their adventures in his
paintings are not subject to rational analysis and correlations which are
measured by a liner only disturb. We need daydreams, fantasies, dreams,
everything that is slightly strange and weird, not very well understandable and
yet a little bit comprehensible. Still, we never get to the same starting
platform from which the artist has started. Piho seems to be saying \"The number
of untold stories is so big that there is enough left for everyone, I myself do
not certainly know every story\", holding his pipe cosily in the corner of his
mouth.
Painting of Juss Piho strike immediately the eye with their bright colours,
but while stepping closer, we notice that actually none of the colours seems to
look the way we are used to. Green has gone to visit red, blue talks to yellow
and even white - last hope of those in favour of clear borders - is not just
white, but is entangled in layers. Pieces of furniture , architectural
angles and cornices glow sweet light, resembling milky fog, being there and
disappearing at the same time...
We can really say that Piho\'s works remind us of the nostalgic and romantic
spirit of Parisian cafés in the beginning of the previous century. Careless
atmosphere is reflected in every Piho\'s work, emphasizing once again the
necessity to glance at the world with a smirk and whistle while strolling
peacefully into the white...
