The Seekers

THE SEEKERS
Arne Maasik, a photographer and artist, once contemplated – in some of his photos, cities of iron, concrete and glass fall silent, while in others, incredibly strong brushwood proliferates aimlessly. Is this a confrontation? The main character, the one that built the first and has not yet arrived with his axe to fell the other, is nowhere to be found.
At the same time, an idea was forming in the head of the writer Armin Kõomägi; an idea that took many forms, but no words could be found to record it.
Quite by accident, as sometimes happens, the two met and decided to combine their efforts and seek a possible outcome together.

THE SEEKERS is series of photos comprising two stories, in which the photographer has recorded moments of the writer’s fantasy game in the environment familiar to him. These moments have been brought to you silently and wordlessly.
Be it a sports car or a child – each is dear and precious, lonely and outcast in the streets. Deprived of human care, warmth and attention, they seek it in these photos, but the concrete and glass cannot provide it.

RANDOM ENCOUNTER
The seeker in this series is a car. Not an ordinary car, but one with great status – a brand-new, gleaming white Porsche. The fantasy is inspired by the idea that sometime, maybe soon, such desired luxury items could become outcast relics, and useless due to their purposelessness. An analog might be a pedigreed dog that is driven out of its home, because its moods and poor health have started to bore the family. For both luxury sports cars and pedigreed dogs are considered human design achievements. Thus, the former object of admiration is now wandering the streets looking for a new master, somebody that might take care of it and show some compassion.

A DREAM
This series mixes dreams with reality. The main character, a girl, is sleeping in her comfortable bed, but she is not in her own room. She is sleeping in different places – in the street, at the supermarket, at the gym, in the park and elsewhere. When awake, she is probably an ordinary girl, but in her sleep her subconscious guides her on a quest for intimacy, warmth, friendship, attention or whatever a sleepwalker desires. Maybe she finds what she is seeking, but a dream is still a dream and hardly ever comes true. But this does not mean that she should stop searching.
