Spirit of water

The photos of Kaari Saarma reflect an interesting vision of the abstract transforming spirit of water, from spiritual landscapes to enigmatic play of form.

”Water surrounds us everywhere either visibly or invisibly. It is always present either as the salty sea which sundrops leave the one-of-a-kind bitterish scent to one’s hair; or as the ruthless rainstorm that hammers down on every square inch of a traveller’s body; or as the breathtaking mist that lets one’s dreams flow free; or as the freshwater rivers and lakes, the shores of which are alive with the buzz of mosquitoes; or as clouds that give us wings; or as the velvety drizzle on the cheeks of an August night; or as invisible vapour – the spirit of water, the needle-sharp frozen ice-crystals, nourishing living environment… Water is also the most important component of what we consist of. One can truly say that on planet Earth we live in the spirit of water”, the author says.

Kaari Saarma (1974) has studied molecular biology in Helsinki University; has participated in exhibitions since 2004.
