ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION IN SEB GALLERY

From 18 December 2009 – 29 January 2010

The anniversary exhibition in SEB Gallery displays posters of art exhibitions through the ten years that Haus Gallery and SEB Bank have worked together in the art field.

Would this really be a “proper“ art exhibition as is excepted from a gallery? A poster as such does not necessarily hold an artistic value of its own yet has important value as a symbol, a sign. A poster designed specially for an exhibition is like a visiting card that gives a rather direct hint about the exhibition’s character through the visual language of the reproduced picture but is far from being able to depict the entire display that it represents. So let’s take these posters as signposts on our walk through the ten years in this gallery hall. As always at an anniversary it is good to slow down for a while and recall these magnificent works; works by so many different authors in so many different techniques (only fragments of which can be seen from the posters today) and thereby make a bow to high-level Estonian art.

Ten years in history is not an overly long period but it is considerable age for an art gallery. For ten years SEB Gallery (Gallery of Estonian Union Bank at the time of its foundation) has offered exhibition space for many Estonian authors and provided help at introducing their work. In cooperation with Haus Gallery the gallery’s walls have been a temporary home for the works of both schoolchildren – young artists making their first brush strokes, and for well-known and recognised art geniuses.

Haus Gallery congratulates SEB Gallery upon the anniversary and sends warmest greetings to Mr Ain Hanschmidt, the founder of the then Estonian Union Bank, and to Kai-Riin Meri, the long-time supervisor.
